IRMA was founded on the belief that every individual impacted by mining should have a say in how responsible mining is defined and measured. Through the equal governance of six diverse sectors—communities, organized labour, NGOs, finance, purchasers of mined materials and mining companies—IRMA has developed an independent, best-practice standard for responsible mining, as well as a transparent process for assessing mine performance against that standard.
This three part system – a best practice standard, assurance of transparent and independent measurement of mining activities against that standard, all equally governed by diverse sectors — has benefits for those sectors, as well as related entities like policymakers. Learn more:
